So, not much happened in my world of gaming last weekend.  I've been delving through Diablo 2 on the trusty old laptop (the touch pad makes it interesting some times), in honor of the announcement of Diablo 3.  I've heard rumblings of the graphics in the game looking too WoW like for some people's tastes, but I think they look great.  Especially after running through the dreary locations and creatures in D2!  I can't wait to see more of this new game, but I know it won't be released until Blizzard thinks it is ready.  Hopefully that is sooner rather than later.

Anyway, the wife and I had a friend over on Saturday night so we broke out the Wii for some light party game action.  While the system (and a lot of its games) don't have tons of depth or horsepower, it does one thing right.  It makes gaming fun for everyone!  We played through a number of different sports games in Wii Sports and Wii Play and also showed off a little bit of WiiFit.  All of which were enjoyed by everyone playing.

I guess the Wii is sorta like those light board games you use to introduce your friends to your hobby.  Easy to pick up, hard to put down, and entertaining for a large group of people.  Even my friends who aren't really into games (beyond the occasional round of DDR) find themselves having fun with the Wii.  When I introduced one of my other friends to Wii Boxing, she asked me which buttons to push to punch, apprehensive of the complexity the game might require.  You should have seen her eyes light up when I told her that no button pushing was needed.  As long as you can move your arms in a relative fascimile of a punch, you are all set!  She proceeded to have a very good time playing the game (and beating up her husband), even though it wasn't super complicated.  I know the Wii has it's share of more complex games (I already completed Zelda:Twilight Princess, Super Paper Mario, and Super Mario Galaxy), but it is the ease of getting into the gameplay that is winning people over.

She hasn't purchased a Wii yet, but I've got a feeling it's more because she hasn't had much exposure to one.  A few more visits and she'll be irrevocably hooked.  And isn't that what part of being Obssessed with Gaming is about?  Spreading the addiction?

I've put my cruising through Oblivion on hold due to my looming computer upgrade.  My old hardware does a decent job of running the game, but if new hardware is right around the corner, why should I play the game at anything below it's optimum settings?  That seems pretty dumb to me.  I'm also really excited to pick up a copy of Bioshock now that it has hit the cheap shelf.  My old hardware wouldn't play it correctly, so I'm looking forward to seeing what the new box will do with it.

Creepy underwater adventure, here I come!

See you next week.  And until then, I remain, as always, Obsessed With Gaming.

Update.... and WOW news
Written by Colin Sherman, on 13-07-2008 18:43

Hey all,

I figured it was time for an update.  I am healthy!  FINALLY!  I still have a cough sometims and my energy is low, but I'm not sick anymore.  So, I intend to get back to gaming and podcasting.  On Saturday I recorded the latest episode of Obsessed Board Gamers and it will be up sometime in the next couple of days.  Gary and I are in the middle of revamping Obsessed Gamer News, so it likely won't be recorded this week.

I'm addicted to World of Warcraft... AGAIN... it happens from time to time.  While I was sick I played tons of it, and I'm still hooked.  If anyone is tired of their server, or hasn't played WOW in awhile and wants to get back into it, Naniel, Michelle and I are playing quite a bit on Kael'Thas.  If you'd like to hook up and play with us, let me know at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it and I'll give you our character names.  I have a level 70 undead Warrior as my main, Michelle is a 70 blood elf priest, and Naniel is an 70 undead mage.  If you have a 70 and want to run instances or raids with us, the fee to move it to our server isn't bad at all.  Of course, you would have to be horde.  We have a lot of alts as well, that we have been playing.

Anyways, I'm hoping that through this site, I can make some new WOW friends.  I'm trully amazed by how much end game content there is this day and I intend to see a lot more of it!

For now,
Colin
