And now Episode 22 of Obsessed Board Gamers in which we explain and review the strategy board game, Airships. I posed a question in here for some of the German friends of the site. So, I hope that some of you respond.
Greetings Obssessed with Gaming readers! My name is Josh (though better known around here as jrbeers717) and I just wanted to introduce myself to all of you. I enjoyed the podcasts on this site so much that I asked Colin if he'd be interested in some written contributions. He graciously gave me a shot, so I'm writing this to give you a little intro into who I am. Hopefully you like what you read enough that he'll keep me around. So leave lots of nice comments! (I'll pay you. Seriously.)
So, you're probably asking yourselves does this guy even qualify as being Obssessed with Gaming? Allow me to present my credentials:
-My first game system was an Atari 2600. Yes, I've been gaming for that long. I even played E.T. on it, the game that nobody played and subsequently most of the cartridges were buried in a land fill.
-Our first home computer (a Tandy 1000 EX) introduced me to all sorts of games. My mom brought home Space Quest 1 from one of her Comp. Sci. classmates and we all played together. I guess gaming runs in my blood. I remember how excited I was when we doubled it's internal memory to 512kb. So many more gaming options!
-I never owned an NES, since my parent's thought a computer to game on was plenty (didn't they know I was obssessed?). However, I made friends with a kid that had one and even though I was allergic to his cat and he was even dorkier and less popular than I was, I still played a ton at his house. During long weekends away from school, my brother and I used to RENT an NES and play the crap out of it until we had to return it on Monday. We almost beat Bionic Commando in a single weekend. That's how I recognized the theme song a couple of trivia questions back.
-I played many many hours of Diablo(1), Half-Life (TF2), Quake 2, Duke Nukem 3d, etc. on the LAN at my college. I even had a high level Diablo character that wore completely legit equipment. From what I saw, that was pretty rare.
-I kept up the PC gaming after I entered the workforce and even got a couple of my co-workers hooked. I'm pretty sure their wives still haven't forgiven me for it and it's 8 years later.
-I currently have games started on the PC, the Wii, and the PS2. Now that I'm married myself, things have slowed down a bit as my schedule has changed around. However, I'm still Obssessed with Gaming.
But, you're probably asking yourselves, "What about board games?" We'll I was into those when I was younger, but we sold off most of them in yard sales over the years. I played a lot of Magic:The Gathering (3rd edition through 4th edition) in college. I played one game of Rifts, but I think the GM thought I was a little too into my drug using psycho character. And that was mostly it, until recently. I was tooling around on the net bored at work one day when I tried looking up some of the fun games I played as a kid (Fireball Island, was the one I was looking for), when I found Boardgamegeek. I've been hooked again ever since. From there I made a couple purchases, started looking at game reviews, and found Obsessed With Gaming. I guess my board game infatuation has just begun!
Hopefully you think that qualifies me as Obssessed with Gaming. Be sure to let me know either way. As one last parting tidbit, thanks to the Wii's stat tracking, I know I played 5 hours and 36 minutes of Legend of Zelda:Twilight Princess on January 20th, 2007. Why is that important? My wife was upstairs in labor with my son at the same time and I didn't really notice what was going on until we had to head to the hospital.
Episode 21 of Obsessed Board Gamers has arrived. For this episode, we did a video introduction and review of the Ticket to Ride Card Game, which is a 2-4 player strategy card game that takes about 30 minutes to play.
